About Moondance Sea Kayak Adventures . . .

Sunset kayakerWe at Moondance welcome you to the magical, intimate world of sea kayaking. As every seasoned kayaker knows, and every new paddler soon discovers, each trip is rich with experience and insight. Snug in the cockpit of your kayak, you'll glide through kelp beds along shoreline galleries of fantastically sculpted sandstone, and cross between islands to the timeless rhythm of the moon and tide.

Moondance welcomes beginners as well as more skilled paddlers on our adventures. Beginners will learn the basics of kayak navigation and paddling techniques, while the more experienced will find this an excellent opportunity to advance their skills. We specialize in small groups to assure attention to individual needs, and to promote low impact interaction with the natural surroundings.

Our experienced guides are friendly and approachable. Most trips are owner-guided. Sharmon, owner of Moondance, has been kayaking since 1982 and successfully leading group trips since 1992. She has Wilderness First Responder Certification and requires co-guides to maintain a minimum of Advanced First Aid training. If you choose a catered option, breakfast and dinner are prepared and served by our guides on overnight trips. Non-catered option also available.

Our commitment is to insure groups the most rewarding sea kayaking experience possible. Wind, tides and weather all interact, and conditions within the islands can change rapidly. Rather than adopting the "brochure destination" mentality, all overnight or longer trips have a built-in flexibility. While following a basic itinerary, our trips incorporate the skill levels, desires, and expectations of the group.

Moondance provides seaworthy ocean-going kayaks, all related gear, and navigation devices. We use fiberglass kayaks by Necky and Northwest and Premium Touring paddles by Werner.

Local trips launch from either Bellingham, Anacortes or Orcas Island. Expedition tours to the west coast of Vancouver Island require a prearranged rendezvous location. Travel directions, a ferry schedule and a list of gear you should bring are provided when you book your trip.

Discounts and gift certificates are available. Children between the ages of 7-11 kayak at half price.
